The National Legal English Competition (NLEC) has been successfully held for eleven times since 2008! Thanks to the support of all parties, the competition has been widely appreciated by college teachers and students and legal practitioners for its unique thoughtfulness, practicalness and social attention. In order to further intrigue college students’ interest in learning legal English, enhance legal practitioners’ foreign-related legal ability, promote the exchanges and integration of Chinese and foreign cultures of rule of law, and boost cultivation of national foreign-related legal talents, after multi-party consultation, the final of the 12th NLEC is scheduled to be held in Beijing on April 29, 2023 (Saturday).

The 12th National Legal English Competition is jointly sponsored and organized by the School of Foreign Studies, China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), Yingke Law Firm, the Legal Translation and Interpreting Committee of the Translators Association of China (TAC) and the Legal English Certificate (LEC) National Examination Committee. The topic of the contest remains “Express Your Legal Views in English”. Now we sincerely invite the contestants from universities and legal practice sector with strong legal English proficiency to participate in the competition.

The competition consists of five divisions: North and Northeast China Division (CUPL), East China Division (Shanghai Yingke), South China Division (Shenzhen Yingke), Southwest China Division (Southwest University of Political Science and Law (SWUPL)) and Northwest China Division (Northwest University of Political Science and Law (NWUPL)). The preliminaries will be held on March 25, 2023 (Saturday) in each division (each division can arrange the time of the preliminary flexibly), and the lists of finalists of each division should be selected and submitted by April 10.
