Grand Final of the 11th National Legal English Contest Held Successfully

In the afternoon of November 13, 2021, the grand final of the 11th National Legal English Contest was successfully held in China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL). The contest was jointly sponsored and organized by the School of Foreign Studies of CUPL, the Legal Translation and Interpreting Committee of the Translators Association of China and the Steering Committee of Legal English Certificate (LEC) Examination. Nearly 350 people, from 49 universities across the nation and from courts, procuratorates, law firms and so on, participated in this contest. In October, 2021, the preliminaries of Northeast and North China, Southwest China, Northwest, and East China, were organized respectively by the School of Foreign Studies of China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), the School of Foreign Languages of South West University of Political Science and Law (SWUPL), the School of Languages of Northwest University of Political Science and Law (NWUPL) and the School of Languages and Cultures of Shanghai University of Political Science and Law (SHUPL). 15 excellent participants were selected from the preliminaries to compete in the grand final.

Judges invited to attend the grand final were Wang Zhengzhi, partner of Beijing Globe-law Law Firm and executive of All China Lawyers Association, Yang Dejia, member of the judicial committee of Chaoyang Primary People's Court, Beijing, Wang Tianyi, procurator of Chaoyang People's Procuratorate, Beijing, Prof. Tian Linan, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Studies of CUPL, Prof. Zhu Yuanqing, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Languages of SWUPL, Prof. Chen He, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Languages of NWUPL, Associate Prof. Xia Ganlin, Vice Dean of the School of Languages and Cultures of SHUPL, Prof. Zhu Yong, Director of the Education Center for Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI) of the School of Foreign Studies of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL), and Prof. Liu Yanping from the School of Foreign Studies of CUPL. Also, James John Poltorak, foreign teacher of CUPL, served as the invited guest of the contest.

So far, the 11th National Legal English Contest has successfully concluded. The contest aims at advancing Law-Based Governance in China in the new era. The law plus English contest not only helps participants explore their own legal knowledge and English skills, but also provide a stage for them to demonstrate their knowledge and competence. Also, the contest fosters a passion among Chinese college students and legal practitioners towards legal English. Furthermore, the contest plays a pivotal role in increasing the communication and accelerating integration of  legal cultures between China and foreign countries for the cultivation of preeminent foreign-related legal talents.
