Li Aijun, Researcher of CASS Visits Our School to Discuss the Interdisciplinary Study of Phonetics

At 2:00 p.m. on January 3, 2020, the academic lecture sponsored by the Institute of English Studies was successfully held in Conference Room 215 of the Research Building at the Xueyuanlu Campus of CUPL. The speaker of the lecture was Li Aijun, a researcher of the Institute of Linguistics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). The theme of the lecture was the Interdisciplinary Study of Phonetics. Associate Prof. Zhang Luping of the Institute of English Studies moderated the lecture, and Associate Prof. Cao Honglin of the Institute of Evidence Law and Forensic Science and Dr. Zhang Liang of our school spoke on the lecture. Internal and external teachers and postgraduate students also attended the academic lecture.

The 1st “FLTRP Cup” English Book Report Contest of CUPL Successfully Held
In early 2020, China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) and the Comprehensive Reading Department of Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP) jointly launched the 1st “FLTRP Cup” English Book Report Contest of CUPL. Students of grade 2019 in all schools of CUPL actively participated in the competition.
A total of 207 entries were received. On March 2, the School of Foreign Studies organized internal and external experts to evaluate the entries fairly according to the content and language expression of the entries. Finally, three first prizes, five second prizes and ten third prizes were granted.

Undergraduate Teaching of the School of Foreign Studies Carried Out Orderly
According to the notices of the Ministry of Education, Beijing Municipal Education Commission and CUPL the spring semester of the 2019-2020 academic year would be postponed in order to effectively prevent and control the COVID-19 epidemic, and to ensure the health and safety of teachers and students. Our school actively responded to the relevant work arrangements of superior departments and carried out online teaching for three undergraduate majors: English, translation and German in an orderly manner. During this period, the School of Foreign Studies offered a total of 76 online undergraduate courses to 103 undergraduate classes, with 52 online teachers, and more than 95% of the courses were offered online.

“Online” Teaching of Foreign Language Courses for Postgraduates in the School of Foreign Studies Carried out Smoothly
In order to effectively prevent and control the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic, to ensure the physical and mental health and life safety of teachers and students, and to implement the adjustment program of postgraduate teaching and training programs, the office of postgraduate affairs of the School of Foreign Studies formulated the Implementation Rules of the Work Plan for Adjusting the Postgraduate Teaching Mode during the Postponement of the Spring Semester of the School of Foreign Studies in the 2019-2020 Academic Year.
In the spring semester of the 2019-2020 academic year, the School of Foreign Studies planned to offered 53 postgraduate courses, including public foreign language courses, academic courses and professional courses. Among them, 48 courses have been offered online, and 5 courses will be opened in the second half of this semester.

“Abolishment” and “Establishment” of the Research and Development of Foreign Language Teachers
At 2:00 p.m. on May 3, 2020, the webinar on “‘abolishment’ and ‘establishment’” of the research and development of foreign language teachers, initiated by the School of Foreign Studies, China University of Political law and Science (CUPL) was successfully held. The webinar was moderated by Pro. Zhang Lei, Associate Dean of the School of Foreign Studies of CUPL. Seven associate deans in charge of scientific research of foreign languages or postgraduate teaching of schools of foreign studies/ schools of languages and communication studies carried out a heated discussion.
