The Section of English Teaching and Research for Undergraduates undertakes the task of English teaching for undergraduates of non-English majors. Based on the overall goal of training “international, interdisciplinary, application-oriented, and foreign-related” talents, the Section constantly innovates the teaching mode, shifting from the goal of general foreign language ability training to the goal of the combination of general academic ability and specific foreign language ability, so as to improve the international competitiveness of students in the future.

At present, the Section of English Teaching and Research for Undergraduates has 32 faculty members, including 3 professors and 21 associate professors. Among the faculty members, 10 have Ph.D. degree, 6 are Ph.D. candidates and 2/3 of them have overseas academic experience.

In recent years, the Section has made remarkable achievements in teaching. The Section has established the academic English curriculum system which highlights the characteristics of the law discipline of our university and has set up the multiple curriculum modules of the “general academic English”, the “discipline-based English” and the “general English culture”. In addition, it has prepared the textbooks such as Legal Academic English and Pure English Writing for the curriculum successively and won the second prize of the Beijing Teaching Achievements of Higher Education Award twice. At present, the Section is actively building a personalized system of foreign language curriculum in accordance with the training objectives of various majors.

The Section strives to create a “second classroom” for students. Every year, the Section holds the Oral Report of Academic English Contest, cohosts academic paper report meeting and English Culture Festival and other activities of the whole university, and guides students to participate in various professional English competitions, from which they have won many awards.

The Section has also made fruitful achievements in scientific research. Many teachers have undertaken projects of provincial and university level and published many monographs, textbooks and many research papers in core academic journals at home and abroad.
