The Institute of Translation and Interpreting of China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) was born from the Institute of Foreign Studies of CUPL in 2015. The Institute was established to train undergraduates and postgraduates majoring in Translation and Interpreting.

Relying on the leading discipline of law of CUPL and its faculty with multiple educational backgrounds of language, translation and law, the Institute adheres to the feature of  “translation + law” and aims to cultivate interdisciplinary talents. Most of the teachers have interdisciplinary educational backgrounds and overseas experience, and they constitute a strong team of teaching, research and practice of legal translation and interpreting.

The BTI program of Translation and Interpreting started enrollment in 2015. Two modes of talents training, “4+1” program and “5+2” program, are implemented. The “5+2” mode means that students may choose law as their second major while they complete their four-year (Legal) Translation and Interpreting study. After completing all law courses in the fifth year, students can obtain two degrees in Art and Law. Students who are qualified after examination will be admitted by the School of Comparative Laws to continue a Master's Degree in Comparative Law Studies for another two years and will be granted Master's Degree in law after graduation.
