The Institute of German Studies is mainly responsible for the teaching and cultivation of the undergraduates and postgraduates majoring in German language and literature.

The Institute has a faculty made up of 12 full-time highly educated, international and young faculty members, including 4 associate professors who have long-term visit, study and research experience in German-speaking countries.

The BA program of German Language and Literature of China University of Political Science and Law was set up in 2004. It aims to cultivate interdisciplinary talents who are “proficient in German, literate in English, and equipped with knowledge in law and humanities” to bring out a batch of application-oriented, interdisciplinary and innovative German professionals with broad knowledge and pioneering spirit. At the same time, the “5+2” training mode, i.e. five-year double bachelor’s degrees + two-year master’s degree in law is implemented. After obtaining bachelor's degrees of Art and Law in the first 5 years, students who pass the examination may be enrolled by the School of Comparative Law to pursue a master’s degree in Sino-Germany Comparative Law Studies.

Since enrollment of postgraduates majoring in German language and literature began in 2012, the Institute has been relying on the advantageous law discipline of CUPL and focusing on the needs of national strategy to cultivate interdisciplinary and application-oriented talents who have good knowledge of German history and social culture and the ability of cross-cultural communication, translation and interpreting.
