The Institute of English Studies has 24 full-time faculty members, including 7 Professors, 10 Associate Professors; 21 of them have Ph.D. degrees or are Ph.D. candidates. The faculty is well-structured in terms of age, professional titles and academic backgrounds. The faculty has abundant teaching experience and strong research abilities.

The Institute is responsible for teaching undergraduates and postgraduates majoring in English Language and Literature. At undergraduate level, the BA program of English (Legal English) was offered, aiming to cultivate high-quality talents with the comprehensive development of their moral, intellectual and physical abilities and who are familiar with both English and law. After four-year undergraduate study, students can not only master English knowledges but also major in law on the basis of CUPL’s rich legal resources to study basic theories of law, and finally become interdisciplinary “English + Laws” talents who can contribute to the social development.

Since the MA program of English Language and Literature was established in 2007, the Institute has always been concentrating on national strategic demands with the support of the advanced law disciplines of CUPL to meet the social demands of “English + law” talents. Practical talents are cultivated with patriotism, rigorous academic attitude, noble characters, solid foundations of English and American language and literature, linguistics and translation theory and strong practical abilities of their major.
