The Research Center for College English, CUPL, an academic research institution affiliated to CUPL, was founded in March, 2007. It conducts research and academic activities related to English teaching and research for undergraduates under the guidance of the university.
Established for the objective of promoting college English teaching and research, the Center organizes and hosts various seminars, academic conferences, lectures, reading clubs and curriculum reform projecs on college English teaching, providing a platform of academic communication for English teachers and researchers in peer universities. The Center continuously strengthens its ties with domestic and overseas universities as well as other research institutes and researchers. While absorbing the state-of-art research findings home and abroad, the Center also introduces its research findings to other universities and research institutes.
Since its foundation, the Center not only promotes English teaching in CUPL, but also produces stimulus for reforming college English teaching curriculum. It sets up the College English Study Center, aiming to help resolve problems and questions in students’ study and to disseminate competition and academic information to students in time. What should be highlighted is the innovative course of “Academic English”, also known as Legal English, which sets an example for domestic college English teaching and has prodfound influence.
All in all, the establishment of the Research Center for College English facilitates English teaching in CUPL. Following the philosophy of modern college English teaching, several rounds of teaching reforms have been implemented for better teaching results. The Center continuously cultivates research talents and strengthens teaching research forces. What’s more, a series of college English textbooks published by the Center propel curriculum innovation to a larger extent.
